Corner High School

Embracing the natural beauty of a unique and challenging site.

The new Corner High School provides a state-of-the-art facility for the residents of Corner, AL, replacing their existing building which was in dire need of repair. The site, while picturesque, had issues that needed to be addressed early in the design stage. Most notably, a blue-line stream bisects the site, which forced our team to come up with creative solutions within budget.

The final design incorporated a two-story, 210,000 sf structure that carefully straddles the blue-line stream and created distinct academic and assembly wings. This allowed a peaceful courtyard to develop while preserving the natural vegetation of the site.

The academic wing includes the classrooms, science labs, media center, and administrative offices, while the assembly wing houses the cafeteria, performance hall, choral and band rehearsal spaces, a 1,600-seat competition gymnasium, a PE gymnasium, and locker rooms. The campus also includes a football stadium, baseball and softball fields, a competition soccer field, football practice field, and field house.
