Science & Engineering Complex

Promoting an interdisciplinary research environment for the University of Alabama.

The Science & Engineering Complex contains state-of-the-art classroom and instructional space for undergraduate engineering and science students, as well as graduate student research. The building is connected to Shelby Hall, the original science facility anchor for the new science and engineering quad, and contains instructional labs, teaching & research labs, classrooms, auditoriums, and break out collaborative spaces for student-to-student or student-to-faculty interaction, as well as offices for faculty and researchers. The project was an early example of a new trend in academic design whereby the department-centric model was replaced by a research-based approach conceived to promote an interdisciplinary research environment.
